Student FAQs

Frequently asked.

Why Rise?

We’re a tight-knit team looking for driven and hardworking individuals to scale our organization from the ground up. At RISE Consulting, our primary mission isn’t to chase after the largest and most well-renowned clients - instead, we look for startup businesses and innovative nonprofits with high growth potential and construct creative strategies for them to succeed.

Beyond client consulting, we want to help you learn and grow. Our team dynamic is driven by mentorship, fueled with leadership, and steeped in friendship and camaraderie. During your time at RISE, we will provide you with hands-on problem solving experience, professional development workshops, consulting career resources, and leadership opportunities that will shape the way we move for years to come.

Because RISE is a new organization, our existing network is far smaller than those of larger and older student groups at USC. If you’re looking for instant clout and a trophy of achievement, this isn’t it. If you’re looking to venture into the unknown and build something meaningful brick by untouched brick, we think you’re a match.

I don’t have any prior consulting experience. Can I still apply?

Absolutely! Our organization is dedicated not only to serving startups, but also to developing students both personally and professionally. Throughout the semester, students will gain access to plethora of static and interactive consulting resources, as well as weekly workshops covering a range of topics, including consulting, public speaking, job recruiting, presentation design, and much more. Additionally, our organization arranges for guest speakers with backgrounds in both entrepreneurship and consulting, so students can spend their time learning directly from the pros.

I am not a business major or don’t know if I will pursue a consulting career. Can I still apply?

Of course! Our team is open to students from all majors and desired career paths. Because we work with organizations from a spectrum of industries, your passion for medicine, law, technology, politics, education, or anything else will be of tremendous benefit to our team and the businesses we serve. Even if you have no prior consulting experience, once you’re part of our team, we will provide plenty of opportunities to practice and learn about the field of consulting.

If you possess an entrepreneurial spirit, are passionate about service, want to grow professionally, or just feel like exploring the field of consulting, we encourage you attend an information session and submit an application!

Yes! We are open to students from all class levels. In fact, we particularly encourage freshmen and sophomores to show us what they can bring and how they intend to lead!

If i am a freshman, sophomore, junior, senior, or transfer student, Can I still apply?

Although how much time you invest may vary throughout the semester, we estimate the average commitment to be around 6-8 hours each week. You will become involved in not only your assigned business engagement, but also interactive team meetings, professional workshops, and social events. Keep in mind this is just an estimate, and you will get out what you put in.

What will I be doing, and how much time should I expect to commit?

There is no minimum academic requirement to join our team. We select students who prove they are willing to put in work, take on leadership, and creatively apply their experiences to solve challenges faced by startup organizations across the world. We want students who are looking to spearhead their own initiatives and employ their ideas as a medium for change.

Moreover, we look for students who are happy to share the highs and lows of launching a new organization in an environment as competitive as USC. Applicants who are eager to learn, able to adapt, and share our vision of becoming one of the most impactful student organizations on campus will find themselves to be a great fit.
